7 to 4:30? What happened to 9 to 5?

Well, it's official. I have now lived through three whole weeks of high school. I will start off this post with some math in honor of this momentous occasion.

How much time school took each day (Including commute, excluding homework):
Last year: 6.5 hours
This year: 9.5 hours

Aaah! Stupid mass transport! Stupid waking up at 6:00 am. Good grief. Last year I watched a shit-load of movies, approximately. This year I simply don't have time on weekdays, which is why weekends are now designated showtime.

Sigh...

My brain even feels numb- hence the rambling

Right now I'm recovering from an especially harrowing dentist visit. I went over there this morning and they strapped me down, drugged me up, and dug out my wisdom teeth. I have a feeling wisdom teeth without roots are more valuable than grow ones, and the Doc is planning to sell them on the black market. Never mind that "It'll keep your teeth nice and straight so you won't need braces again!" nonsense.

I just had a very large milkshake. I tried to eat pudding but for some reason it made the taste of blood in my mouth stronger. That reminded me of Fight Club. Drooling blood and counting how many teeth you lost may give Fight Club members hard-ons, but I'm less than thrilled.

When my mom got her last wisdom tooth out she slept all day. I had one short nap and I don't feel tired. I feel like watching something violent. I'm anxious to see others suffer. I can relate to The Departed characters on a whole new level. Speaking of The Departed, when my dad and I saw it in theaters, it stunk really bad. And by stunk I mean locker room-dirty socks kind of smell. We went back last week and it smelled like any other room. My dad's theory is that people from the last Departed screening sweat so much from the suspense, the whole place was filled with the aroma. I believe it. That was probably the most stressful movie I've ever seen.

Anyway I want something violent to watch while I regain the feeling in my chin and bottom lip. I rented Rush Hour, A Fish Called Wanda, and A Good Shepherd. I'm leaning toward Rush Hour, even though I've already seen it. Maybe this time I'll get all the jokes.

Gotta go, I'm drooling on the key board again.

Airline fare

I just got back from Europe. I went on a tour of France and Italy, and it was basically the most amazing ten days of my life. I got to see sights I had only ever glimpsed from Roman Holiday and Amelie. Incase you weren't sure, Europe is a long way away. From Denver to Frankfurt it took nine hours, which is more than ample time to watch a couple movies.
On the way there they showed Catch and Release, which I despised and hope to never see again, and Freedom Writers, which was a little clique, but ultimatley endearing. It was by far the best movie I saw on the trip.
On the bus driving from Florence to Rome we watched Stripes. One girl said it was her first R-rated movie. Yes! We have cultural growth! I just wish she could have seen a good movie. Oh well. We also watched Charlie's Angel's 2. I hadn't seen the first one, and now I don't plan to.
On the plane coming back we saw Wild Hogs and Music and Lyrics. Wild Hogs was okay, there were some funny parts, but I wouldn't have watched it if I could have slept. I enjoyed Music and Lyrics more than I would like to admit. I'm not partial to romantic comedys, but I suppose after sitting on a plane for five hours any distraction is welcome.

Ah! Don't I have anything good to say about movies? How about this: The Talented Mr. Ripley is amazing. Martin Scorsese is a God. I want to marry Pedro Almodovar.

*Whew* That's better.

My favorite is Chocolate Cherry Garcia... except technically I think it's a frozen yogurt.

I just saw Babel. Fun stuff, people. What was it about? A bunch of bad things happen to a bunch of people in different countries in the space of a few days. I'm trying to think. Did ANYTHING good happen? Not that there has to be good things, but it makes the 2 1/2 hours more bearable. I still liked it though, it was kind of like Crash, only with less profanity and more subtitles.

Having seen four of the five films nominated for best picture, I decided I'm not too crazy about any of them. Which sad, because last year I was insanely oscar-slap-happy. I'm still having a party though, and I have a food list made up.

It snowed last night, and that set me in mind of movies set in winter. This summer I watched The Ice Storm and The Ice Harvest (in 90 degree weather, of course). I didn't like either, but they both have their merits.
The Ice Harvest is set in December, and it is a pretty silly Christmas movie. There are strip clubs, alcoholics, and people stuffed in trunks. If you're in to that sort of thing, you might like it, but don't look for anything deep.

Ice Storm is directed by Ang Lee, and reminds me of American Beauty, but it isn't as over-the-top. Which, unfortunately was my favorite part of American Beauty. Same broken marriages and sexually adventurous teenagers, but without the jokes. I thought it was just too serious. (The beginning reminded me of Wonder Boys. Toby Maguire and Katie Holms are in college together.)


And some off-topic news:
I made a college of little tiny movie posters and put it on my binder to display for my classmates. The most anyone had seen was three. (And I had forty pictures) Curse you, parents who don't allow R rated movies!!

Hide the rum!

I just got back from Iowa where *drum roll* I saw Pirates of the Caribbean 2! Me and Maddie dressed up as pirate whores and were the first in line at midnight. Much to my dismay nobody else was dressed up! The theatre wasn't even full! You can understand why I'm a little surprised to see it has grossed 132 million dollars the first day. Ah, the wonder of sequels. Disney is ecstatic.

The whole beginning could have been cut. Elizabeth and Will have to postpone their wedding plans to save Jack on a dessert island. The whole thing has nothing to do with the rest of the plot, except we know that Elizabeth and Will need the find Jack's magic compass. It turns out that Jack has a debt to pay to Davy Jones, (Bill Nighy with a Medusa beard) and when trying to pay it doesn't work out, he just runs away with Davy's heart*. The most exciting development is an interesting new love triangle which will call Will/Elizabeth shippers to question where their loyalty lies! (Wink wink, nudge nudge)
All in all, it was a lot like the first one, similar plot, same characters, same jokes. Only it was two hours and forty minutes long, and that's more than enough to make your butt sore.


* In the most literal sense. Dead Man's Chest, get it?

I can't believe it!!!!!!!!! I MISSED the Critics' Choice Awards on TV!!!!!!! What was I thinking? I had NO IDEA it was on tonight!!! *beats head with stapler* And if that's not bad enough, I don't have Nickel Creek tickets either!!!!!! They're sold out!!!!! entertainment......withdrawal.......fading.....fast..........
The thing is, I don't watch TV. Ever. Really. The only thing I watch is the Simpsons, and Frasier. And they don't count because I just watch the DVDs. The whole concept of having to be in front of the TV at a certain time to watch something that's probably a rerun, and is (at least) 1/3 commercials, doesn't appeal to me. I plan on watching award shows, and that's it. Unfortunately, you have to watch regular TV to know when they're on! (*sob*, can't win!) At least I know that People's Choice Awards are on tomorrow. So, I should LOOK FORWARD to tomorrow, except I also have an orthodontist appointment. *Napoleon Dynamite sigh*
Alright, one last thing. There is the most hilarious poll at IMDb.com. It's a neck-and-neck race between Jake Gyllenhaal and, yes, Rupert Grint for best supporting actor. (Jake Gyllenhaal is winning, of course.) Apparently mugglenet and other Harry Potter fan sites have links to the poll. Don't get me wrong, I love Harry Potter! But, really, Rupert Grint???

Baby booties!

My second cousin and her baby are here for the weekend from Switzerland, and I just crocheted BABY BOOTIES!!!! I only made one, but I remembered to write down the pattern as I went, so I can make another one later. I made a pair of booties before, but they were a different kind, and they weren't as good. :-( I will post the pattern on my crochet blog later. (If I think of it..............)
We got a Christmas tree!! It's really cool. Today we have a lot of presents to wrap because at church my mom picked out a family to get gifts for. They probably wouldn't get gifts otherwise, so it's good, but a little sad. It was hard picking out presents because we know nothing about the family except ages and genders.
And yes, I saw Harry Potter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was good except they had to cut out a lot, kind of like Return of the King. I have one suggestion: Cut out the part where the dragon gets loose, and add the house elves!!!!!

Bull's eye!!!

YAY! Today me and my brother went to an archery class. It's only our second time, but I hit a bull's eye!! That little circle the size of a quarter!! I also hit the circles around the bull's eye, and the wall, the floor, ect. ect. ect. I got 54 points in ten rounds, I don't know if that's good or not though. But anyway, YAY!

I CAN'T BELIEVE HARRY POTTER IS OUT AND I HAVN'T SEEN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAAAAAAA!!! I have to wait till SUNDAY. *sighs, starts sobbing and banging head against computer screen.* *sniff* Maybe I'll just watch the preview for the 74th time.
